Diocese of Dunkeld - Vocations

photo

Welcome. The chances are, that if you have ended up at this page, you are searching for something; a direction in life; peace; fulfilment; God!;

A VOCATION is a calling.

A VOCATION is a way of living life.

A VOCATION is a life.

God calls each of us to a particular way of life, a way of life that will ultimately fulfil us: giving us the peace that only God can provide.

There are as many vocations as there are people, however, we tend to group vocations into: the married life, the single life, the religious life, and the priestly and deaconate lives.

In this page we will be concentrating on the vocation (the calling) to priesthood, and in particular the calling to the Diocesan Priesthood, however, we will provide links to the other vocations.

The question I would urge you to ask yourself is: “What is God calling me to be?” or perhaps put another way, “Where is God calling me?”

Please take a moment to imagine yourself responding to Jesus in the following scenes:

    As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon’s brother Andrew casting a net in the lake –for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, ‘Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.’ And at once they left their nets and followed him. Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in their boat, mending the nets. At once he called to them and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, they went after him. (Mark 1:16-20)

    After Jesus had shown himself to his disciples and eaten with them, he said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than these others do?’ He answered, ‘Yes, Lord, you know I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my lambs.’ A second time he said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ He replied, ‘Yes, Lord, you know I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Look after my sheep.’ Then he said to him a third time, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ Peter was upset that he had asked him a third time, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ and said, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.’ (John 21:15-19)

Prayer for the Searcher
/Inquirer/Inquisitive

Loving Father,
I want to do your will in my life.
I know that by following your call
I will find happiness and peace;
despite the path not always being easy.
Help me to respond whole heartedly
to the prompting of your Spirit in my life.
So that You may work through me
to bring your love and healing to the world.
I make this prayer through Christ your Son.

Amen.
